sour
this felt-tip highlighter's ink has a sour smell to it. it is a smell i have learned to associate with work.
i like to think on paper. the way things turn out, i sometimes end up with around five pending tasks that need to be addressed. so: i take a sheet of bond paper...i tear it into quarters...and i write whatever needs to be done on one of them. not in any particular order, no, i just like to see what needs to be done, and what i've done already. i stick the to-do list onto the upper-right hand side of my monitor with masking tape. then, i get down to work.
as i complete tasks, i highlight what i've done using a felt-tip highlighter. there is a satisfying SWISHHHHHHHSHH sound whenever i drag the nib across the paper. SWISHHHHHHHSHH! after which, a familiar smell wafts its way to me...a sour, assaulting smell that signifies the completion of a task.
SWISHHHHHHHSHH!
there you go.
yosi muna.
